On The Banks Of White River

Delaware and Neighboring Indiana Counties
including Grant, Blackford,
Randolph, Jay, Henry, and Madison

I have traveled all over this great country of ours. I've seen the oceans, mountains, grasslands and deserts. Interstates, two-lanes and dirt roads. But no matter where those roads have taken me, Indiana has always been 'home'. I was raised and have lived my entire life in Delaware County until 2016. The history of this county is hard to separate from its neighbors. While researching one county, the trail often leads to the next. This site focuses primarily on Delaware County, but I'll not pass up a chance to post items involving Henry, Jay, Randolph, Blackford, Grant or Madison Counties should they catch my eye.

Records Available

There are numerous sources for traditional birth, marriage and death records. It is not my goal to reinvent the wheel here, but to provide information gleaned from sources outside of the obvious locations. Many newer researchers (and older ones, as well) create their own brick walls by allowing a lack of documents to impede their progress. Official records go missing for a list of reasons. In Delaware County, many were lost to neglect, carelessness and incompetence at the county level. Thanks to the late Dr. Althea Stoekel, we have as much as we do! In an effort to replace some of the information contained in those misfiled, damaged, destroyed or just plain lost documents, and to fill in the blanks between them, I invite you to click on the links below. Keep in mind, this is very much a work in progress and is being updated almost daily. If you have items you would like to contribute, please contact the Webmaster at banksofwhiteriver@gmail.com
