The last number of the Missionary Herald states that Mrs. Esther Hoyt, widow of the late Rev. Ard Hoyt, formerly of the mission to the Cherokees, died at the residence of her son, Rev. C. A. Hoyt, in Elizabethtown, Delaware county, Indiana, on the 3d of October last. Mrs. Hoyt was about 68 years old. Her native place was Southbury, Conn. Her husband was settled in
the ministry at Wilkesbarre, Penu., whieh place they left in November, 1817, and arrived at Brainard, 1818. She continued in the Mission, her husband having died in February, 1828, until April, 1834, when her infirmities and the disturbed state of the mission induced her to remove and reside with a son-in-law in the state of Ohio. During her last sickness she was sustained by the piety which had animated her in her missionary labors, and death seemed to be to her no unwelcome messenger.-New York Observer.
