Sudden Death Of a Prominent Delaware County Physician Who Resided at Shideler
Dr. W. J. Rogers Dies Suddenly of Heart Disease While Away From Home and at the Bedside of a Patient
Thursday night about 10 o'clock, Dr. Rogers, of Shideler, was called to the home of Mrs. Woods, south of the place to
treatment to an injury Mrs. Wood had sustained by falling on the ice. The treatment had been properly administered, when the
doctor turned about and started the inmates with the words, "Quick, take me home I want to see my wife." He was immediately
assisted to his sleigh by Robert Scott, son-in-law of Mrs. Wood, but was not able to drive alone, and was accompanied by Mr.
Scott as far as the home of Isaac Shideler. When opposite Mr. Shideler's home he asked to see Mr. Shideler, and was assisted
to the house. But on nearing the door he fell heavily forward and expired instantly. Dr. Rogers was 50 years of age, a graduate
of the 'old school' and has been praticing medicine ten years; [ ] years at Shideler. Memorial services will be held at Eden
church near Shideler, this morning at 11 o'clock. Tomorrow the remains will be taken to Milroy, Rush county, for interment.
