Died, April 9, 1880, four mile north-west of Yorktown, little Susie, six year old daughter of Richard and Hannah Landrey, after a
lingering illness of nearly three weeks, in which she many times told her parents and relatives she was going to die, kissing
them all goodbye. It is said she repeated many nice little prayers during her sickness. Her funeral service was held in Mt.
Pleasant church, at which place she was buried on Sunday, April 11. She had just competed six months term of school which
she attended nearly every day, advancing with great rapidity. She was a bright and beautiful child and it grieved me (her
late teacher) sorelt to hear of her death, as she was one of my most lovely and affectionate a"pets' in school, always ready
and willing to learn. The following lines are inscribed for consolation of those who mourn her loss. Little school mates,
read this. Who will be called next? When we meet again Susie's seat will be vacant.
"Dearest Susie, thou hast left us,
Here thy loss we deeply feel,
But 'tis God who has bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.
Yet again we hope to meet thee,
When the day of life is sped,
When in heaven, with joy to greet thee,
Where no farewell tear is shed."
