Mrs Sarah Hickman Kirby, at the RIpe Age of Eighty-six, Passes to Her Reward Today it becomes our sad duty to chronicle the death of one of our aged and respected citizens. Mrs Sarah Hickman Kirby, aged eighty-six, died at the home of Mr and Mrs A H Hamilton, on East Jackson street, Sunday afternoon, at 3 o'clock. Deceased was the relict of Thomas Kirby, to whom she was married on July 15, 1833, and the daughter of Judge Tomlinson, remembered by our oldest citizens as one of the judges of Delaware county. As the deepening shadows of the even-tide of a well spent life gathered about her, the faith she had exepmlified during life sustained her and she recognized that in passing from this life, one of ppeace, happineess, and love awaited her in the great beyond. Mrs Kirby was born in Gifford (sic) county, north Carolina, on February 8, 1914, and with her husband joined the Universalist church in 1859. She was a consistent member of this church up to the time of her death. Those who were so fortunate as to be numbered as her firends mourns her deeply. A woman of strong characteristics, broad minded, just in all things, she commanded and held the true love of the community. Five children survived her. They are Thomas H Kirby, John M Kirby, Mrs A H Hamilton, and Mrs J A Heinsohn, al living in Muncie, and George W Kirby, who is located at Cripple Creek, Col. Mr and Mrs Heisholn recently left for Georgia, and were not present at Mrs Kirby's death. The funeral will take place at the home on Jackson street at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev Margaret A Grennen (Brennen?) officiating. The sermon by Miss Brennan, pastor of the Universalist church, was very appropriate, befitting the occasion. his son who was here is deputy. He spent his spare time with Auditor Monroe. |
