Was a Hero at Pekin

Nathan Hoffmaster, who died in Japan and who was buried at Marion a few days ago, was a brother of Mrs. Joseph Pfeiffer, Mrs. August Raing, and H. J. Hoffman
of Albany. Nathan enlisted in the regular Army after the Philippine war broke out and when the difficulties in China required Uncle Sam's troops, he went there
with his command, Company H, 14th Infantry. Just a short time before the announcement of his death was received became the young soldiers last letter, in which he
described his part in the engagement that resulted in the capture beacon. His conduct was marked by the greatest bravery and at that time he was in good health and
had no thought of death. In short time, during the return of the troops to Manila, Hoffmaster was accidentally injured in Nagasaki, Japan, and died in the hospital.
