Mrs. Garner Passes Away Prominent Social Leader and Church Worker in Muncie For Many Years. Mrs. Marguerite B. Garner, 5J, widow of the late Dr. J. W. Garner, died at the family home, 704 East Main street, at 9:45 o'clock last night after an illness of eight weeks. Mrs. Garner had been in a critical condition for the past few days and her death waa expected. The deceased follows closely the death of her husband, Dr. J. W, Garner, one of Muncle'a most prominent citizens and dentists, who died last November. Since his death, Mrs. Garner had been falling in health. Not until eight weeka ago did her condition become really dangerous. Mrs. Garner was a prominent woman in many of the social affairs of this city. She was prominently identified with the Woman's Club for a number of years. She was also an ardent worker in the First Presbyterian church in this city, having united with that body when a girl. Mrs. Garner and her husband spent all of their married life in Muncie. The deceased was born at Chillicothe, Ohio. At the age of ten years her parents died. During all of Mrs. Garner's school days, she attended the Cooper Seminary at Dayton, Ohio. After graduating from that insti- tution she removed to Muncie and took up her home with the Rev. Mr. Beattle, one of the first Presbyterian ministers in the city, who was for many years pastor of ths old First Presbyterian Church. She lived with the Beattle family until the year of 1875 when she was united in marriage to Dr. Garner. Her maiden name was Baldwin. The following relatives survlve: A daughter, Mrs. Will Kemper, wife of Dr. Kemper; a son. Dr. Frank B. Garner, a prominent dentist of this city; one sister. Miss Eliza Jane Baldwin, of Lancaster, O. The funeral servlce will be conducted from the family residence, 704 East Main atreet, at 4 o' clock Thursday afternoon. The Rev. B. M. Nyce, pastor of the Presbyterian church, is out of the city at this time and the officiating minister will be announced later. The body will be laid to rest in Beech Grove cemetery. |
