A Sudden Death
Joseph W Edmonds, One of Muncie's Oldest Residents Found Dead In Bed
Mr. Joseph Edmonds, who is well known in this city and Delaware County was found dead in bed yesterday afternoon about 4:30 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wall Vickery, 322 Wysor street, where he boarded. On account of being night engineer at the Muncie Artificial Ice plant, he slept in the day time. Yesterday morning complained to Mrs. Vickery that he did not feel very well, although he was persuaded to eat something he partook of very little food. As he had been complaining since last Sunday of pleurisy on one side, very little was thought of this complaining by Mrs. Vickery yesterday. He had been in the habit of retiring about 8 o'clock each morning and arising about 4:30 o'clock in the afternoon so as to get ready for work at 6 o'clock. When Mrs. Vickery went to awake him she found that he was cold in death. She at once gave the alarm and soon friends came and rendered what assistance they could. Joe Edmonds, as he was familiarly called, probably had his habits but as a true friend to his friends he was as solid as a rock. Politically he was a staunch Democrat and was always at the polls on election days rendering what aid he could for the party that represented his principles. At the time of his death he was sixty-two years old, and had resided in Delaware County for more than forty years. He was in the employ of J. H. Wysor, or nearly the whole time of his residence in the county. The funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Universalist church, the services be conducted by Rev. T. S. Guthrie, assisted by the pastor, Rev. W. W. Gleason. The funeral services that the grave will be conducted by the Master Masons of which order Mr. Edmonds was an honored member. The interment will take place in Beech Grove Cemetery.
