Smothered To Death
Mother Awoke To See Her Child Expire
Sad New Year's Event At Crampton Home, North of Muncie

The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Crampton, six miles north of Muncie, in the Wheeling pike, died
suddenly early Monday morning while in bed with its mother. The latter woke in time to see the little one
gasp several times and then expire. Mr. and Mrs. Crampton were unable to eplain the cause of death and
later notified Dr. Polland, County Coroner, who said that the child had been smothered in the bed clothing.
The theory advanced by the parents is that the child, becoming entangled in the bed clothing, was unable
to extricate itself until too late. The funeral services will be held Tuesday from the residence.
