Former Gaston Resident Dies

Mr John Callahan, who has been ailing for a long period of time with cancer of the stomach, passed on Thursday at the home of his son, Hobert Callahan, of Cold Station. Burial was made in the cemetery at Matthews Saturday. Several people from here attended: among them were Sam Conner, Virgil Brown, J C Brown, Earl Jackson, Wm Vannatter, Joseph Arthur, Ross McCreery, Everett McCreery, James McCreery and wife and two daughters, Mr and Mrs George McCreery, Ollie Fifer and wife, Ott Broyles and family, Wm Barrett and wife and Frank Woodring and daughter. He will be missed from his circle of friends and relatives here in Gaston and vicinity, since he and his family lived her for so many years. He was always active in the affairs of the community and was a charter member of the local order of the Odd Fellows. He leaves to mourn his going, one son, Hobart Callahan, and six grandchildren.
