Sarah Brown Dead
Sarah Brown, well known in this county, died at her home near Brooklyn. Iowa, February the 4th.
Mrs. Brown is well known to many people of Delaware county having resided on a farm in Salem
township four miles South of Muncie for 35 years, where she raised a family of four children.
She sold her farm about nine years ago and moved near Brooklyn, Iowa, where she has resided
until her death. Many friends in this county extend their sympathies to the family in this,
their sad bereavement. We take the following from the Brooklyn, Iowa, Chronicle:

"Sarah Brown-Died at her home in Jefferson township, Feb. 4, 1893, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Sarah Brown, aged 63 years, 4 months, and 19 days. Sarah Miller was born in Rockingham County,
Vt., Sept. 15, 1829, where she grew to womanhood, removing to Delaware county, Indiana, in 1858. In
1960, she married William Brown, who died Aug. 23, 1869. Coming to Iowa about nine years ago, she
purchased a farm in Jefferson township on which she resided until summoned to the spirit world. She
was the mother of four children, two of who preceded her in death. Two sons, W. S. and William W.
remain in the home made desolate by the Grim Messenger. Her brothers Absalom, M. H., and Thompson
Miller with their families were in attendence at the funeral, which occurred from Grace M. E. Church,
Feb. 6, 1893, conducted by Rev. R. L. Patterson. The blinding storm which raged without, prevented
many relatives and friends from attending the last rites. Mrs. Brown was a member of Grace M. E.
Church and died in peace. Hers was a life of toil. Left a widow with four small children, she suc-
ceeded in providing a comfortable home for them, and in after years when they grew to maturity, the
boys have remained with her, preferring the society of a loving mother and the quiet of the boyhood
home, to the uncertainties of life among strangers. She expected soon to retire from the farm and
enjoy the fruits of her labor, but she has been called to the rest eternal. The sympathy of many
friends will go out to the bereaved ones. The hand that once toiled on the earth now beckons loved
ones heavenward."
