The Muncie Daily News of December 18, 1882, published an exerpted version of the diary of David Gharkey. Deaths included have been posted below. Although printed chronologically there, they are included alphabetically here. The rest of the published article remains verbatim.

EXTRACTS
From the Diary of David Gharkey

We are permitted to copy from the biography of David Gharkey a few extracts of his diary. Mr Gharkey was a large land owner in this neighborhood, and lived in Muncie the most of the time from 1840 to 1850. He was a queer old gentleman, and was a sufferer nearly all the time with a sore legs and other complaints. His diary consists prinicpally of sentences, written from day to day, telling the condition of his leg, the medicine he swallowed, walks and rides he took, and other personal matters. From time to time he also jotted down occurrences of a public nature. The extracts we make are principally references to persons and incidents of that time, and will, we think, be interesting to all our old residents:"
