Deceased Veterans in 1914
The Muncie (Indiana) Morning Star dated January 2, 1915, published list of area Civil War veterans that had passed away in 1914. The article is shared here in its entirely with the list appearing alphabetically rather than chronologically as it did in the original article.



Forty-One Veterans of Civil War Passed to the Beyond in Delaware County Last Year.

Each year further depletes the ranks of veterans of the civil war and the past year was no exception. According to a record kept by George N. McLaughlin, forty-one veterans answered "taps" during 1914. In 1913, forty-eight veterans passed on to their final reward.

February and November were unfortunate months for the "boys" who fought at Gettysburg and Chicamaugua. Seven died during the shortest month of the year and six passed on during November. But one died during July and but two expired during May.

John Burgess was the first of the 1914 list of veterans to answer the final summons and Charles Riggs was the last.
