The Muncie Morning News of January 13, 1883, published an article reviewing health
department statistics of the previous year. It included the number of births and deaths, the latter of which were
broken down into age groups. That article went on to note particular diseases and their victims. It is noted that
the report only includes those "for the last quarter only, but for the small pox scourge at Granville, would have
