Olevia Maria Powers Williams
Olevia Maria Powers Williams was born in Monongahela county, Va., near Morgantown, July 11,1817; moved to Wayne county, Ind., with her parents in 1823, where she resided for five years, and then moved to Henry county, where she lived until she was united in marriage to John Williams, January 23, 1840. Then moved to Delaware county, and has lived in the vicinity of Muncie ever since. She is the mother of nine children, six of whom is living. She has ten grand-children and four great-grand-children. She has experienced the hardships of pioneer life, amid howling wolves, and was quite well acquainted with Indian Jake and his squaw, Sallie, whose hut, the remains of which were recently destroyed, was in what is now Whitely. She has seen Muncie rise from a small country village to a bustling, booming city.
