I came to Muncie in 1828, then a very small village of not more than five or six houses. Where the court house now stands
was covered with hazel bushes. My father's house was the first hewed log house with shingle roof that was built in the town. Indians were plenty.
My father was a cabinet maker and made the coffins in which "Old Indian Jake" and his wife were buried. I attended the funeral. I was married Oct.
19th 1852 to Vincent Parsons. I have lived to enjoy the great improvements of Muncie, which have seemed to me almost miraculous.
Reminiscences
Prepared from written and verbal recitals of the personal experience of Our Grandmothers of Muncie, in early pioneer life in Indiana. Compiled for a benefit called 'The Grandmother's Rally', given in the interest of the First Baptist Church of Muncie in 1892
