Mary A. Neely whose maiden name was Mary Ann Kenower, was born in Cumberland county, Pa., in the year 1818. At the age of seventeen years she moved with her parents to Clark county, Ohio, and three years afterwards, in 1838, was married to Moses L. Neely. In 1839 she moved to Muncietown and took up her abode on West Washington street in a little house on the ground now occupied as a residence of Mrs. Swain. At this time the population of the city numbered 150 souls. There was no church edifice at this time, the different denominations holding their meetings in the old Walling Hall. At her next birthday the subject of this sketch will be seventy-four years of age and has been a consistent member of the Presbyterian church from early womanhood. She is the mother of ten children - seven girls and three boys - all of whom are married except two, and all living but two. Her residence at this time is at 409 East Jackson street, where once was a pond, and she remembers the time when horses could swim where most of the business portion of the city now stands.Reminiscences
