I was born in Wurtemburg, Germany, December 26, 1829; emigrated to America with my parents at the age of eighteen months; resided in Pennsylvania seven years, then moved to Muncie, Indiana in the year 1836, where I have since resided. Muncie was then a small hamlet with no church buildings or schools. My first school in Indiana was in an old frame building on West Main street, with Morton East as teacher. The last school I attended was the old seminary, with Abbott and Ferris as teachers. The first Sabbath-school I attended in Muncie was in an old log building on West Washington street, and our library was carried in a basket. The first church erected was a Methodist church on East Washington street, situated where A. L. Johnson now lives. I was married to John Meeker in the year 1850, at the age of twenty-one. I have six children living, and thirteen grandchildren, to enjoy the present prosperity of Muncie.Reminiscences
